Bushwalking Victoria celebrates 75 years
May 1934 to May 2009

From May 2008 Bushwalking Victoria commences a year of special activities and events (see below) celebrating the achievements of Victorian bushwalkers over the last 75 years.
Since the inaugural meeting of the Federation of Victorian Walking Clubs on 15 May 1934 membership of the Federation has grown to 10,000 members in 70 clubs in Victoria.

The name of the organisation was changed to Bushwalking Victoria in 2007. The original objectives that included representing the interests of bushwalkers, promoting bushwalking and contributing to the wider community have endured and remain relevant to bushwalkers today.

Member clubs and all bushwalkers are encouraged to join in the activities, planned to celebrate this milestone, that will both recognise the achievements of Victorian bushwalkers and look to the future.

Check Bushwalking News Victoria for articles in each issue such as profiles of prominent bushwalkers and member clubs, a series on the history of Bushwalking Victoria and reports on anniversary activities.

Tree Planting With Ray Thomas & The Regent Honeyeater Project
Lurg Hills (near Benalla)

On the weekend of 16 - 17 August 2008, members of 12 clubs plus other non-bushwalkers (approximately 100 people in all) participated in a BWV 75th anniversary event with the Regent Honeyeater Project. It was a fun and productive weekend meeting new people, making new friends and above all helping the threatened species in the area by planting more than 5,100 trees.

Special 75th Celebration Federation Walk 2009
Mt Disappointment area

Sunday 5 April 2009. Make sure this date is reserved on your club activity program.

Planning is well underway for this fabulous event involving all our clubs.  The 75th Anniversary working group are creating an event to draw all Bushwalking Victoria clubs and individual members together in a special 75th Anniversary Federation Walk. The involvement of all our clubs in planning, leading, running and participating in walks presented at one great event will achieve this.

The working group has identified 23 possible walks for the day, and a number of clubs have already volunteered to lead them. Clubs that have not already volunteered to lead a walk are encouraged to check the list and contact the Federation Walks Coordinator if interested in leading.
